So I woke up on New Years Day with a headache and a bad case of dry mouth a little after 12:00 noon. Before you accuse me of being a bad father to a newborn baby, read on.
Claire apparently decided that she wanted to stay up to greet the new year/new decade and we were toasting the new year with a bottle (of formula) while the clock struck midnight. After Claire finished off her four ounces of celebratory beverages, I took her upstairs and put her in her crib. I guess the excitement of New Years was too much for her because I could not get her to sleep as quickly as usual. I tried all the tricks I've learned but nothing worked. Hours went by and Claire would still not calm down for more than a few minutes. I won't go into all the details but let's just say I started losing my mind around 3:30 AM so I had to tap out and wake Francesca up so we could switch roles. I fell asleep immediately and woke up eight or so hours later basically in the same condition as someone who had partied hard on New Year's Eve despite the fact that I had not had a single alcoholic beverage the night before. Needless to say, it's going to be many, many years before I let Claire stay up until midnight on New Years Eve again.
