I was perusing "The Baby Book" by Sears & Sears for any tips on how to calm Claire down and stumbled (stumble, that's what I do) across a chapter on "Babywearing." The book noted that in Bali, a baby does not touch the ground for his or her first six months of life. The baby is always held by the mother or another family member.
Claire seems to regularly (but not always) calm down when she's being held which is fine but holding her for six months or even six hours is not an option. The Baby Book recommended using a sling type contraption which frees up both of your arms to perform tasks such as cleaning up the house, eating normally and blogging. It turns out that we had one of these baby slings (I have no idea where it came from) so I popped Claire in it, placed it over my shoulder and after some initial fussing, Claire settled down. The baby sling isn't always a silver bullet, but overall, it's a GAME CHANGER.
